Tommy Miah
Tommy Miah originates from Bangladesh but grew up in Birmingham where he trained as a chef. He opened the Raj Restaurant in Edinburgh more than twenty years ago and five years ago he opened the Original Raj Hotel in Edinburgh and more recently Tommy Miah's Raj Hotel in Islington.
In 1993 Tommy founded the Indian Chef of the Year competition which draws some 5,000 participants annually from throughout the UK. Tommy is also a celebrity chef on an Asian TV channel. History Of Tommy Miah's Raj Hotel, Islington
The building at the southern corner of Ockendon Road and Essex Road has had several incarnations in its long history. For many years it housed Jays the Jewellers after which it became a hotel, initially the Kervan, then the Elena and now Tommy Miah's Raj Hotel.
